Art and Night in Waikiki

Our first night on the town in Waikiki with the Gellars was interesting. We weren’t quite sure what we wanted to do, and had no significant game plan. All we knew was we wanted to head into Waikiki, have some fun, and see where the night would take us.

The first thing on our agenda was to grab a drink somewhere fun. It’s a given, time to let loose, so we opt for taking a cab in order to skip worrying about having a designated driver. Drinking and driving is a severe no no in my book. After waiting the twenty minutes for our cab we hoped in and were well on our way.

Let me say this, I was super excited. I kept squeezing the Hubs hand in anticipation for our first night out in Waikiki. We got into Waikiki’s Chinatown District around 9 ish. We decided unanimously that we would start there first and make our way to other parts of the downtown area as the night progressed. The street was jumping with people and even a few performers.

The first performers we saw was a band called Streetlight Cadence. I stopped and listen to them for a bit before pressing on with everyone else. Streetlight Cadence is a four member alternative folk pop group who meet in college and got their name from playing on the streets of Waikiki’s Chinatown district during the monthly First Friday Art Nights. You can find them both on Facebook through their band name or on Reverbnation through their band name.

They were a fun band to listen to. I am a sucker for violins and accordions in bands, there is just something about the sound of both that really get my feet moving. These guys definitely had the fun vibe groovin’ out o them. Really itchin’ to dance I decided to move on before I got into full dance mode and did and “Elaine from Seinfeld” move. Yeah, I am that awkward of a dancer.

We didn’t know it at the time, but it happened to be First Friday Art Walk. What a great happenstance. Art walk on our first night out. Yeah!

Naturally we wanted to explore and came across a sign for a studio in one of the buildings.
